More than that it has said that Nokia plans to unveil it at the Mobile World Congress later this month, doing an Indy and rescuing the handset from the land of mobile curiosities before the stone door that is its deal with Microsoft closes. Last month Asus revealed a promising Windows 8.1 tablet at CES, the VivoTab Note 8. It was expected to go on sale over here this month but it seems Microsoft was a bit keener to release it in the US as over the weekend it has been spotted on sale from the American Microsoft Store. (more…)

Windows 9 Tipped for April Announcement

Friday, January 17th, 2014

Although it’s hard to imagine anything being quite as bad or soul destroying as Windows Vista it’s fast becoming clear that Windows 8 is the successor to that awful OS, rather than Windows 7. It would be unfair to say Windows 8 is quite as bad as Vista but it does share the fact that it tried to revolutionise the operating system and upset a lot of people in the process. Help is on its way however in the form of Windows 9 which is rumoured to be announced soon and released in 2015. (more…)

Long Rumoured Nokia Normandy Lands on Twitter Again

Monday, January 13th, 2014

Back in November images hit the web of a Nokia handset that was rumoured to be a prototype version of a Lumia device running Android. It looked like every other Lumia device out there, not a criticism, with the exception of its back button indicating it was an Android rather than a Windows Phone device. Now another image has leaked, seemingly showing the same device, which could be an indicator that Nokia is still working on the handset. (more…)

Wednesday, December 18th, 2013

It’s only a rumour, and if true it won’t be happening for a while, but it’s looking like Microsoft might offer Windows Phone and Windows RT to smartphone and tablet manufacturers for free in the future. This would lead to cheaper Windows mobile devices, and would help to expand the limited number of manufacturing partners that are currently making handsets and tablets running Windows. (more…)

Based on recent sales figures and a survey of what people are saying in the twittersphere Play.com owner Rakuten claims that the Wii U and the Apple iPad are “the most talked about presents for children this Christmas.” (more…)

Microsoft Hints at One-size-fits-all Version of Windows

Wednesday, November 27th, 2013

Love it, hate it, or possess indifferent feelings towards it there’s no denying that Windows is a bit all over the place at the moment. When Microsoft decided to create a mobile operating system that was actually any good (unlike Windows Mobile) it actually did create something that was good, albeit not very popular. This signified a fork in the road for Microsoft’s operating systems, leaving the resulting trio of variations feeling a bit lost. However there have been hints recently that Microsoft is going to reunite its wandering versions of Windows. (more…)

Xbox One Matches PS4 with One Million Sales in First 24 Hours

Monday, November 25th, 2013

The battle of the next gen consoles is well and truly on as Microsoft announced over the weekend that the Xbox One had sold one million units in its first twenty four hours on sale. This record-breaking milestone, for Microsoft, was announced not long after Sony’s boast that it had done the same amount of business following the PS4’s release in the US and Canada. Whether they’re neck and neck is all a matter of opinion as it took the Xbox One eleven more countries than the PS4 to unlock its achievement. (more…)

Lucky Few get Xbox One 14 Days Early

Monday, November 11th, 2013

It often seems to be the case with pre-ordered hardware that it arrives later than its official delivery date. It isn’t very often that things get delivered ahead of schedule, especially not next gen consoles. However over the weekend it seems US retailer Target got a bit ahead of itself as it shipped a number of Xbox Ones fourteen days early, the US and UK release date is November 22. (more…)

Wednesday, November 6th, 2013

Love it or hate it you can’t blame Windows Phone for its determination in the once seemingly hopeless battle with Android and iOS. It appears that determination is paying off according to a recent report which indicates that the platform is now more popular than iOS in Italy and that one in ten smartphones in major European countries are Windows Phones.
