Report Exposes the Real Cost of Internal Storage

Friday, November 29th, 2013

Anyone who has ever bought a memory card for their camera will know how ridiculously cheap flash storage is. Yet for someone reason we don’t seem to blink an eye when we pay the extra tens of pounds to get the latest tablet with a bit of extra memory. A recent report from Which? has looked into just how much we’re overpaying for the internal storage in our devices and the results are quite shocking. (more…)

What’s that Skip? Your iPad exploded!

Friday, November 15th, 2013

Now and again a story will emerge of some piece of gadgetry, usually a smartphone, which has decided to spontaneously combust. Although not entirely implausible these stories are usually difficult to prove and flukes if there is a grain of truth to them. Another tale of explosive electronics has appeared this week, and comes from a Vodafone store in the land of Oz. (more…)

iPad and iPhone Headed for Potential Growth Spurt

Monday, July 22nd, 2013

When Apple revealed the iPhone 5 it was the first time that the company seemed to be following a trend rather than setting one. If the latest rumour from the Wall Street Journal is to be believed then the Cupertino Crew might be following Samsung’s philosophy of something for everybody even closer in the future. Asian suppliers are the source of the rumour and claim that Apple is testing larger versions of both the iPad and the iPhone. (more…)

Apple goes flat, iOS 7 ditches Skeuomorphism

Monday, June 17th, 2013

Last week saw Apple unveil its new Mac Pro, creating much discussion (and mockery) in its wake, but the revelation from the last seven days that is going to really affect the majority of the company’s fans is the makeover that iOS has gotten. iOS 7 has been revealed and it’s as flat as a 17th century globe. While it’s a significant change for Apple it’s not quite innovation, following Windows Phone’s trend-setting simple design language and ending up looking more like Android. (more…)

iPad 4 with 128GB of storage is now official

Wednesday, January 30th, 2013

Exciting news Apple fans! The maker of all things i has quietly announced that its next iPad will be packing 128GB of internal storage. There were plenty of hints leading up to the announcement as a leaked SKU (Stocking Keeping Unit, or the unique identifying number of a product) hinted at the existence of such a device. (more…)

Apple Products Top List of Unwanted Gifts, Teens of Ungrateful Recipients

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013

Ok so maybe the last part of that headline isn’t true but the first part certainly seems to be – this year Apple was the retailer with the most searched for returns policy on Christmas Day. The news comes from Experian Marketing Services (via The Telgraph) which believes that confusion could be to blame for the high volume of googling by people who are not happy with the Apple product that Santa put in their stocking. I’m dreaming of a white… new tablet, iPad 5 rumours start to circulate

Monday, December 10th, 2012

Ok, so Apple fans won’t be getting a new iPad announcement in time for Christmas. That much is certain. But it’s not long after the release of the most recent iPad and rumours are already starting to circulate about when we might see the next tablet from the Cupertino crew. Apple is a bit of a wild card these days, breaking with tradition and announcing devices before the usual end of their yearly product cycles, so rumours of an early 2013 release don’t seem so ridiculous. Furby set to make a comeback this Christmas

Monday, November 5th, 2012

As we start to get into November of 2012 and Christmas fast approaches it’s easy to forget that children still like to ask Santa for toys nowadays. While a list of the landfill fodder destined to get parents fighting in the toy store aisles this Christmas will be filled with some predictable names it seems like among the Lego and dolls a horror of years past is getting ready to make a comeback – Furby. Amazon mocks iPad mini in new ad, sticks foot in mouth

Friday, November 2nd, 2012

So this kind of marketing strategy is nothing new but it’s always amusing when it turns up. Amazon has dealt Apple a slap in the face this week by running an advert comparing its Kindle Fire HD and the iPad mini side by side. While it’s a cheap trick, and one that it has used plenty of times before (the Kindle ad mocking the difficulty of reading the iPad in direct sunlight spring to mind) Apple hasn’t exactly refrained from using similar tactics itself in the past. So who comes off better? (more…)

Apple announces smaller iPad – Mini Me or Mini “Meh” ?

Friday, October 26th, 2012

Whether you’re a hater, a fanboy, or someone inbetween who doesn’t really care, you couldn’t really fault Steve Jobs on how well he generated hype for Apple’s devices or for delivering exactly what the company’s fans wanted. Kind of like the Simon Cowell of gadgets. However since Tim Cook took over things just haven’t been the same and the result, to use another simile, is what I’d imagine it to be like if Smithers took over the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant after Mr Burns dies. It still functions perfectly well but it’s slightly less eeeeexcellent. (more…)
