Long Rumoured Nokia Normandy Lands on Twitter Again

Monday, January 13th, 2014

Back in November images hit the web of a Nokia handset that was rumoured to be a prototype version of a Lumia device running Android. It looked like every other Lumia device out there, not a criticism, with the exception of its back button indicating it was an Android rather than a Windows Phone device. Now another image has leaked, seemingly showing the same device, which could be an indicator that Nokia is still working on the handset. (more…)

Samsung Pulls Up Its Sleeve to Reveal Galaxy Gear

Monday, September 9th, 2013

As expected last week Samsung revealed its long-rumoured Galaxy Gear smartwatch. While it may have beaten Apple to be the first dominant smartphone manufacturer to make one its high price and Samsung device exclusivity have left many wondering if the time is really ripe for a new device craze. Ubuntu Edge Smashes Crowdfunding Record, Still Needs More

Monday, August 19th, 2013

When Canonical launched the Indiegogo campaign for its Ubuntu Edge smartphone it set itself a lofty target of raising the $32,000,000 that is required to fund a single production run of 40,000 units. With less than 70 hours to go (at the time of writing) it’s still quite a way short of its target, about $19m short. However that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been successful in one sense, it has already broken the record for the most money ever pledged to a crowd-funded project. (more…)

It suggests that in addition to other goodies Google is working on its own console, as a response to OUYA and rumours that Apple also has a game-centric machine in the works. “People familiar with the matter” are cited as the source of this latest nugget of believable rumour mongering. As ever company officials have declined to comment about the phone but there is definitely going to be a big announcement at Facebook HQ this week. (more…)

As ridiculous as the idea of the phablet seemed at first the Galaxy Notes and similar devices have proved to be quite popular. A tablephone if you will.

The Iconia B1, Acer’s promising £99 tablet

Friday, January 18th, 2013

As cheap as Google’s Nexus 7 is tablets which are cheaper than it, especially ones which fall below the £100 mark, should generally be avoided like the plague. However Acer is releasing a £99 tablet at the end of this month which looks like it could offer both a pleasant mid-range experience and a price-tag which you could reasonably call cheap. The Iconia B1 is that tablet. (more…)
