Google Maps Out 3D Future with Project Tango

The future of 3D isn’t all about special glasses and overpriced cinema tickets as Google has recently announced a prototype handset that can create a 3D model of a room, with exciting implications for gamers and the visually-impaired. With software that can track the 3D movement of the device, codenamed Project Tango and sensors that can create a 3D map of an indoor space an accurate model of that environment can be created. How cheap can a Smartphone get? Mozilla thinks very

In this week of bountiful smartphone news where the best and brightest new devices of the mobile world are getting shown off at the Mobile World Congress Mozilla has decided to see how low it can set the smartphone price bar. The company best known for making the web browser Firefox has announced plans to create a smartphone that they hope will sell for around $25, or about £15. Nokia Surprises with Trio of Android Xs

There has been plenty of rumour and evidence lately pointing to the launch of a Nokia handset running Android, and as expected that device has been unveiled this week. However less expectedly it’s one of a trio of smartphones running Android called the X, X+ and XL. Rather than being a hasty attempt to rush out devices running Google’s OS the triple X lineup looks to be a carefully planned move to provide a gateway to Nokia’s better spec’d Windows Phones. Great Scott! Self-lacing shoes by 2015?

Back in 2011 Nike released a replica of Marty McFly’s sneakers from Back to the Future II called the Nike Mags. These special shoes were limited to a release of 1500 pairs and auctioned off to raise money for the Michael J. Fox foundation to find a cure for Parkinson’s Disease. Although they looked just like the sneaks from the movie they lacked one vital feature – they didn’t tie themselves up. Budget BlackBerry Tipped for MWC Announcement

Since its relaunch things have been pretty quiet on the BlackBerry front, the gambit of abandoning its QWERTY-rich lineup not seeming to have paid off. In fact it’s fair to say it backfired with the touchscreen-only Z10 costing the company $1bn, a move which should have led them to rename the company InTheRedBerry. Despite this fact, and that BlackBerry’s CEO John Chen recently said it was going to back to its physical keyboard roots, it’s looking like the trouble phone-maker is going to be launching a new device at the MWC. Lumia 1320 Landing in UK Feb 24

Despite being launched back in October 2013 and available in other countries for a while it has taken Nokia’s latest phablet, the 1320, quite a while to reach the UK. But now Nokia has blessed the affordable device with a release date, confirming that it will in fact be arriving on our shores Feb 24. That’s only a week away and pre-orders have already begun. Google may Dangle Chromecast Dongle in UK in March

Just when you thought there wasn’t enough Google in your life the Android-maker releases a new must-have gadget. This time it’s the Chromecast Dongle, already available in the US, and it may be released in the UK in March. The device promises to be one of Google’s most inexpensive and opens up all kinds of content that can be viewed on your TV simply by plugging it in and controlling it remotely via a smartphone or tablet. Nokia Gets Ready to Unveil Android-Powered Normandy

It’s looking more and more like Nokia’s long-rumoured Android handset, known as the Normandy, will be surfacing soon as the Wall Street Journal has it on good authority that Nokia plans to release the device. More than that it has said that Nokia plans to unveil it at the Mobile World Congress later this month, doing an Indy and rescuing the handset from the land of mobile curiosities before the stone door that is its deal with Microsoft closes. Asus Windows Tab with Wacom Pen Hits US

Samsung’s contribution to the lineup of handsets running Windows Phone has been minimal to say the least, which is understandable given the level of success it has had with Android.
